This week, one year after kicking off the project, the consortium held the PIANO mid-term meeting, a hybrid event at the Institute of Informatics and Telematics of the National Research Council, in Pisa, Italy.
During the meeting, unit leaders reported on the progress made so far on the project’s work plan to advance our current understanding and countermeasures regarding online toxicity on social media. The initial academic works associated with the project —currently in press or under review— were also presented and discussed. In addition, undergraduate and graduate students involved with the project presented themselves and their ongoing work to garner feedback. Finally, we also discussed recent events at the global and Europan stages that impact social media regulation, particularly the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act —which entered into force in August— and the European Parliamentary Elections —held in June.
